Noozhawk’s ParentNooz Camp Guide is officially here and designed to simplify your summer planning for your child!
To empower parents with the necessary resources to make informed decisions regarding summer camps in Santa Barbara, we’ve engaged in insightful interviews with representatives from various local programs for this year’s comprehensive Summer Camp Guide.
In this interview, Noozhawk spoke with Stefan Korfas, Marketing Coordinator at Page Youth Center to learn more about the summer programs they are offering this year.
Question: What is the name of your camp or program, and what is its primary focus?
Answer: Our camps are called PYC Summer Sports Camps. We are dedicated to offering a dynamic and supportive environment where young athletes can improve their abilities in sports like basketball, volleyball, and various multi-sport activities. Our camp emphasizes the joy of playing, the spirit of camaraderie, the value of sportsmanship, and learning to embrace competition and overcome challenges.
Q: How long have you been running the program? Do you have any professional accreditations or certifications?
A: For numerous years, the Page Youth Center has been a cornerstone for youth development in our community by offering various youth sports programs, including summer camps. Our team is composed of coaches who bring a wealth of experience and a shared enthusiasm for fostering a love for sports among children. We prioritize creating a secure and positive setting where young athletes can flourish. All our coaches are CPR/First Aide Certified.

A: Campers will focus on enhancing their sports abilities, boosting their self-esteem, creating lasting friendships, and embracing the principles of teamwork and fair play. Our camps are designed to be enjoyable and foster personal growth and physical fitness during the summer break.
Q: Can you describe the educational components integrated into your program?
A: Beyond the physical training and sports activities, our camps incorporate lessons on teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship. These lessons are integrated into our daily activities, ensuring that campers learn valuable life skills such as cooperation, communication, and respect for both themselves and others. Our approach fosters a well-rounded experience, encouraging personal development alongside athletic prowess. During recreational time, campers will also have the opportunity to learn a little bit of the history behind the camp’s sport, as well as having access to art and reading during that time.
Q: What is the daily schedule like, including activities, meals, and rest periods?
A: On a typical day at the Page Youth Center Summer Sports Camps, campers will participate in a variety of activities related to their chosen sport, as well as other group activities designed to promote teamwork, communication, and socialization. These activities may include individual skill-building exercises, team drills and practice sessions, small group competitions, and full team games or matches. Campers have a daily 60-90 minute break for lunch/recreation and water/snack breaks as needed.
Q: What is the typical age range of campers who attend your programs?
A: Our Summer Sports Camps are designed for children ages 6 to 12 years, accommodating 1st through 6th graders in a supportive and engaging environment. For our Volleyball Camp, we welcome older children, specifically those ages 8 to 13, to cater to a broader skill set and interest level. Additionally, our Elite Camp is tailored for athletes ages 10 to 13, offering advanced training and development opportunities for those looking to elevate their game. These age-specific programs ensure that every camper finds a place where they can thrive and enjoy their summer sports experience.
Q: Do you offer full day and 1/2 day options?
A: We provide full-day camp experiences from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday, to maximize the fun and learning. Currently, half-day options are not available, as we believe the full-day format offers the most comprehensive and rewarding experience, with the exception of our Elite Camp which runs on a half-day format.
Q: What are your policies regarding staff background checks, training, and the child-to-staff ratio? How do you ensure the safety and well-being of campers?
A: Ensuring the safety and well-being of our campers is a top priority. All staff undergo extensive background checks and comprehensive training to work at our camps. We adhere to strict child-to-staff ratios—1:6 for younger campers and 1:10 for the older ones—to guarantee attentive supervision and support, fostering a secure and nurturing environment for all participants.
Q: What is the cost of attending your camp, and do you offer any financial assistance or scholarships?
A: The cost for participating in our camps is $325 per camper, except for our Elite Camp which is $225 per camper (half day). We are dedicated to making our camps accessible to all children and are pleased to offer scholarships to families in need of financial assistance. Our goal is to ensure that every child can enjoy our sports camps, regardless of their financial situation. For more information on scholarships and how to apply, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Q: Is there anything you would like to share about your program that was not already mentioned above?
A: At PYC Summer Sports Camps, we are more than just a sports camp, we are a community where young athletes can grow, learn, and thrive. Our camps are a place for making lasting memories, experiencing the joy of sports, and developing lifelong friendships. We invite your family to join us this summer for an unforgettable adventure in athletics and personal growth.
